Rob - Don't Kill (2000)

"Don't Kill" is the debut of Robin Couder, who has a connection to the French lounge band "Air". How so? Well I'm not entirely sure, finding anything about this guy is extremely tricky. I picked this record up in a tiny indie record store on the East Coast of England. The album features an aray of musical instruments, including guitars, real drums, trumpets, saxophone and strings. It is at such a higher level of musical clarity, not dumbed down by studio manipulation, like the majority of today's artists. It is very French in it's presentation. At times this sounds like a flashback of the 1970's.... of the ELO kind, almost borderline pompous. The jingles and bouncy sounds continue to resound inside my head, long after listening to this record. ENJOY!

Matthew Good - Hospital Music (2007)

Hello my friends it has been a long time, it feels like forever since I graced this account with my presence. I'll try not to leave it too long next time...I promise.

I have been playing this album on a regular basis. Matthew Good is like leftover Pizza, you don't think that you'll like it, but once you try a few slices, you just want more. Poor example I know, but "Hospital Music" although only a few years old seems to be drifting into the arena of the "forgotten album of the 00's" tag. I would hate for that to happen considering it has some truly memorable, heartfelt music on there. Especially the single "Born Losers" that holds a very special place in my heart. It was the song paying the morning that my daughter was born, I remember driving across the snow flurried road to the hospital, my mind racing and my excitement building up. So I may be biased towards this album, but regardless it is worth the listen. ENJOY!

The Blood Brothers - ...Burn, Piano Island, Burn (2003)

"Fucking's Greatest Hits" was one of my anthems back in 2003. While my teenage years are now well behind me and I must settle down now I'm 24 (theoretically) I still get pumped up when ever I hear it play. "The Blood Brothers" were one of those energetic Post-Hardcore bands that exploded onto the scene during the early 00's. Along with the likes of Alexisonfire, Vendetta Red and Fightstar. The fad passed just like every other musical fad of the last 40 years. "The Blood Brothers" were one of those bands that will be etched into the early millennium. "Burn, Piano Island, Burn" is without a doubt their greatest accomplishment. ENJOY!

Johnny Clarke - Dreader Dread 1976-1978 (1998)

I've made a rather modest attempt to explore the musical roots of reggae just recently. After overplaying Bob Marley to death, I thought it time to move onto something different. Enter Johnny Clarke. Another Kingston native, Clarke has a surprisingly gentle singing voice, something that I haven't really found with other artists of the same genre.

I haven't branched out to listening to some of his records from the 70's just yet. From what I hear they do not manage to capture the magic of this album. ENJOY!

Swervedriver - Mezcal Head (1993)

Greetings again fellow music lovers. Today I bring you the 90's phenomenon, Swervedriver. Wayne Shorter - Beyond the Sound Barrier (2005)

Jazz is a genre that I ignored for far too long. I've only been a fan of jazz for about 5 or 6 years. It was Charles Mingus that captivated me and introduced me to the sexy sounds. Wayne Shorter is a name that I have heard mentioned in certain snobbish Jazz circles.....to be honest with you I haven't yet heard this album, but I've heard good things about it. So check it out. Enjoy!

This Mortal Coil - It'll End In Tears (1984)

I HAVE RETURNED. Well after a 5 month absence I'm back. The reason for my long departure stems down to my laptop dying and me being too broke to fix my desktop. So once again all of my problems come down to not having enough money....isn't that how all of your problems in life begin or end? Enough of this, on to bigger and better things.

I don't know if anyone is a fan of David Lynch's film "Lost Highway" if you are and have seen the film, you will recall a scene towards the end where Pete is getting down and dirty in the middle of the night, just off of a lonely highway, with only the headlights from his car illuminating them. During this scene a song plays "Song to the Siren" originally by Tim Buckley, this version is by "This Mortal Coil" is a beautifully haunting song, that sends ripples into your brain....rather fitting for a David Lynch film. So check that song out if you haven't heard it before. ENJOY!
